Night 1: Friday, December 5 | 6–10 PM
Featuring the City of Roanoke Christmas Tree Lighting
The celebration begins with the official City of Roanoke Christmas Tree Lighting, one of the most memorable traditions of the season. The ceremony starts at 5:30 p.m., with the tree lighting at 6:20 p.m., located on Salem Avenue in the Plaza behind the Market Building. Families can enjoy live performances leading up to the big moment.
Arriving early is recommended, as opening night traditionally draws a large crowd.

Night 2: Friday, December 12 | 6–10 PM
Featuring the City of Roanoke Christmas Parade presented by ValleyStar Credit Union
The second Friday features the popular Christmas Parade, which begins at 6:30 p.m. and travels from Jefferson Street at Elm Avenue, turns onto Campbell Avenue, passes Market Square, and concludes on Williamson Road.
The parade is held rain or shine, and with applications now closed, families can expect a full and festive lineup of floats, performers, community groups, and holiday entertainment.

Featuring the Roanoke Valley SPCA Pet Costume Contest
The final night brings back the beloved Roanoke Valley SPCA Pet Costume Contest. Registration opens at 5:30 p.m. in the Plaza behind the Market Building, and the contest begins at 6:30 p.m.
Categories include Best Holiday Theme, Most Creative, Funniest Costume, Best Smile, and Crowd Favorite. This is always a highly attended event that delivers plenty of laughter and great family photo opportunities.
Attractions and Activities Available All Three Nights
Cox S’mores Station
Families can stop by Salem Avenue behind the City Market Building to roast marshmallows and enjoy a free pre-made s’mores kit. Kits are offered from 6–9 p.m. while supplies last.
Snowzilla Jr.
A 35-foot-tall, 90-foot-long winter-themed inflatable slide that includes a nearly 20-foot climb and almost 50-foot slide. Beneath the slide is an enclosed bouncing area, making it a hit with kids year after year.
Kids Zone
All three nights feature a dedicated Kids Zone with inflatables, games, and child-friendly activities.
Carriage Rides
Available on December 5 and December 19 for $5 per person. Children ages 3 and under ride free, and ages 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
Street Performers & Entertainment
Throughout downtown, families can enjoy live entertainment including singers, dancers, balloon artists, fire performers, and more. Many local businesses stay open late for shopping and dining.
