If your family is feeling the pinch with SNAP funding on hold, you’re not alone — and the New River Valley is full of organizations ready to help. We’ve rounded up local resources where you can find free groceries, community meals, and kid-friendly food programs to make things a little easier.Please refer to this link with a more comprehensive listing and details of assistance for areas across the New River Valley. 

Local Food Pantries and Food Banks

Community Meals & Free Food Events

  • Blacksburg Farmers Market - accepts SNAP and matches dollar for dollar up to $50 in free food at the market - open Wednesdays(through November ) 2pm-6pm and Saturdays 9am-2pm
  • Floyd Farmers Market - accepts SNAP and matches dollar for dollar up to $50 in free food at the market - Saturdays 9am - 1pm
  • The Salvation Army New River Valley Soup Kitchen — Mondays and Fridays 12pm -1pm
  • Park United Methodist Church, Christiansburg Thursdays 5:30pm -7pm
  • Radford-Fairlawn Daily Bread -- 501 Second Street, Radford -- Mon - Friday 11:00am - 12:15pm
  • First United Methodist Church --  301 Jefferson Ave N Pulaski -- Tuesdays 6pm

For Families with Kids

Many organizations in the New River Valley offer free meals or snacks for children and teens, even outside of school hours. Check with:

  • Local YMCAs, Boys & Girls Clubs, or after-school programs
  • Libraries or churches that host kids’ meal days or snack tables
  • County or city social services websites for up-to-date youth meal information

  • Micah's Mini-Pantry at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church, 670 Tom's Creek Road Blacksburg (restocked weekly)
  • Little Free Pantry, 220 W Main St, Christiansburg (This pantry is managed by Cub Scouts Pack 145)
  • Our Saviour Lutheran Church, 1845 Cambria St, Christiansburg - Little Free Pantry
