The Montgomery Museum of Art & History will host an opening reception for its newest exhibits—Building Montgomery—on Thursday, July 17, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. This free, family-friendly event will include guided tours, refreshments, and a chance to meet the artists and historians behind the displays.
The exhibits highlight Montgomery County’s architectural evolution and celebrate the role of buildings in shaping local identity. The Building Montgomery history exhibit offers an in-depth look at how construction styles, materials, and techniques have changed over time, with features on both standing structures and those lost to history. Visitors can also learn about the local contractors and companies that played key roles in building the county.
The museum’s executive director, Sherry Wyatt—an experienced architectural historian—will lead guided tours and be available to answer questions about the county’s rich architectural heritage during the reception.
Complementing the history exhibit is the Building Montgomery Theme Show, an art exhibition featuring the work of nine local artists. Their pieces offer personal interpretations of the built environment in Montgomery County, providing a creative lens on the area’s homes, landmarks, and community spaces. Artists include Judith Crowgey, Diamond Gabriel, Matt Gentry, Sue Hossack, Stacy Penven, Savannah Penven, Melissa Pilkington, Diane Relf, and Donald Sunshine.
The exhibits and reception are sponsored by Nest Realty of the New River Valley. Admission is free and open to the public. Families, caregivers, and community members of all ages are encouraged to attend.
